It’s been about three months since I was first tipped to the existence of Casa Castile by Casey Weissbuch, the drummer in roughly 17 of my current favorite bands. After grabbing Vake off of MediaFire, I listened to it three times in a row and gushed about them on Nashville Cream. Here’s a bit of that:
My first impression about Vake is that it’s a nice, dreamy bedroom pop record with some pretty clear links to Animal Collective’s less irritating tendencies. Remember how everybody loved Slowmotions when that record hit the blogosphere late last year? This is kinda like that, except a little more psychedelic and experimental.
If it weren’t for the fact that Vake is an EP, this record would have been in my top 3 local albums of the year in the annual local rock “best of” poll. I’m not sure if I would still compare them to Animal Collective (maybe Grizzly Bear or Uncle Skeleton?), but I do still think very highly of Mr. Nabuco and the fellows who are filling out his live band, which is finally making its debut tonight.
Lights, Flashes by Casa Castile
Casa Castile will perform along with Big Surr, Diarrhea Planet, Evan P. Donohue, Powerbrrrd and Dead Antlers tonight at The End. I know that a Queen cover show is tempting, but you can do both. Not only can you do both, but after 10PM, you can get a grilled cheese sandwich too! It’s like everything we’ve ever blogged about is coalescing on Elliston Place tonight. The show’s 5 bucks, be there or be judged.
