Well, it was a good fight. WRVU is no more, in its place a classical music station owned by WPLN, and we are all super bummed about it. Well, maybe not the VSC and the jackals in Vandy’s print media who reap the benefits, but everybody who counts is bummed. Though the Save WRVU folks insist that the fight is not quite over — the FCC still needs to approve the change and WPLN is perceived as much more community-friendly — but for now, the future of the station as we knew it is looking pretty dismal. You can read the full story in this week’s Nashville Scene, which does a fine job of recapping how utterly screwed over WRVU was by its lords and masters.
Since we weren’t given a chance to say our proper goodbyes to our favorite shows and DJs, a handful of community DJs are getting together tonight at Betty’s Bar & Grill, off Charlotte near Cool Stuff Weird Things, for an all-night dance party. Starting in just a couple hours, everyone from Nashville Jumps to Needles + Pins to Hipbilly Jamboree will be spinning 30 minute sets til the bar closes.
