Is it true? Has it really already been a year since The 5 Spot started $2 Tuesdays, their honorable effort to get the masses of East Nashville hammered at minimal cost? You know it is, fans of archaic currency featuring Thomas Jefferson.
On the off chance that you’re not hip to the deal, local folkie Derek Hoke throws open the doors of The 5 Spot every Tuesday for a night of dirt cheap music and drinking. For the price of a $2 cover (or, y’know, free if you show up before the door guy gets there), you get access to all the $2 pints of Yazoo and alleged $2 hot dogs you can drink and eat while watching a handful of locals handpicked by Hoke himself. We haven’t seen the hot dogs in a while, so that may or may not still be happening. But! Two dollars for pretty good beer!
If you’ll recall our jaunt at Beyond the Edge’s trivia night, you may remember that BtE also offers heavily discounted Yazoo draft on Tuesdays. Truthfully, Beyond the Edge offers a slight advantage as far as cost-effectiveness goes — two pints for $3.75, as opposed to $4 at 5 Spot — but we’d happily spend an extra quarter to hang out in the substantially cooler 5 Spot. Sorry, Beyond the Edge. Y’all are just a little too ensconced in Brosylvania for our tastes. Plus, The 5 Spot has super nerdy bathroom graffiti. Done and done.
The line-up for tonight’s anniversary show looks more or less like the line-up for any given $2 Tuesday show over the past year, but we guess that’s kinda the point: Ricky Young, Little Bandit, The Clones, Young Hines, Lonely H and Bob Lanphier all play tonight, with Mr. Hoke filling in the edges.
If you’re looking for some consummate upper division East Nashville cheap drinking, we’ve got your route all planned out for you: start at Beyond the Edge for trivia at 7:00 and take advantage of the two-for-ones (and, if you’re good at trivia, the drink tickets you win), move on to Dino’s at 9:00 for a nameless mystery band and dollar beers $1.75 PBR tallboys and bottles, then circle back around to The 5 Spot for $2 Yazoo and pool sharking. You can thank us after the hangover wears off.
